Can physiotherapy help migraines?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Where examination shows a cervical/ musculoskeletal contribution — headache or migraine that can be reproduced and eased through treatment — headache physiotherapy in Dublin reduces attack frequency and intensity alongside your medical care. If we find no musculoskeletal component, we say so and point you to the right next step.

Can neck pain cause headaches?

Yes. The upper three cervical segments share a brainstem relay with the trigeminal nerve, so a stiff or sensitised neck can generate a cervicogenic headache, a tension headache pattern, or lower your migraine threshold. A neck-related headache is one of the most treatable headache types we see.

Can TMJ cause headaches?

It can. Jaw dysfunction, clenching and bruxism load the same muscle and nerve chain as the upper neck, so TMJ disorders commonly present as temple headache, facial pain and ear pressure. We assess jaw and neck together rather than in isolation.

Can physiotherapy help dizziness caused by the neck?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Cervicogenic dizziness — dizziness associated with the neck — responds well to upper cervical manual therapy and proprioceptive retraining. We focus only on neck-related dizziness; where symptoms suggest an inner-ear, neurological or other medical cause, we recommend assessment by your GP, ENT or neurology instead.

Do you offer physiotherapy for jaw pain and facial pain?

Yes — TMJ physiotherapy, jaw pain physiotherapy and facial pain physiotherapy are core areas of our clinical focus, covering jaw clicking, locking, bruxism, orofacial pain and trigeminal-type facial nerve pain.

Do you treat concussion symptoms that haven't settled?

Yes. Persistent concussion symptoms — headache, neck-related dizziness, visual strain and exertion intolerance — are managed with combined cervical and graded exercise rehabilitation.

Do I need a GP referral?

Accepted Answer

No. You can book an assessment directly. If your case needs medical input we will write to your GP or consultant with your consent.

How long is the first appointment?

Initial assessments are 60-90 minutes — enough time for a full history, examination of the neck, jaw and related systems, and a clear explanation of what the findings suggest and what happens next.

I've tried physiotherapy before and it didn't help. Why would this be different?

Head and neck pain often involves the cervical spine, jaw and nervous system together. We assess all three and treat what the examination actually shows, rather than the neck in isolation.

Can you help with migraine if I'm already on medication?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Migraine physiotherapy works alongside medical management, and we regularly co-manage patients with neurology teams.
